My role as a teacher is threefold: to engage, to inspire, and to support. I strive to cultivate a relaxed yet focused lesson environment where students feel safe to express themselves musically and freely. As is often the case with classical music, strict or authoritarian teachers can stifle a student's creativity and passion for music. Every student has different strengths and weaknesses and it is not the role of the teacher to conform the student to their teaching style, but to conform their teaching method to suit the student. I am the cello professor at George Fox University and have a lively Suzuki Studio in West Linn, OR. I began teaching cello in high school in California. I have taught at the college level as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Washington where I taught undergraduate non-majors and string technique classes. I have also held a position as a professor at Edmonds Community College. I love teaching young cellists and was a teacher for several years with Seattle Music Partners, a free after-school music program for elementary and middle school string students. Read More
