Hi, I'm Jane! I teach all levels of saxophone along with beginning/intermediate clarinet. I am also open to teaching beginning piano and ukulele. I graduated from Western Washington University in 2015 with a music minor and a self-designed Fairhaven concentration entitled Music, Inequality Resistance. I teach all levels (exclusively online using the Zoom platform until after the pandemic). I specialize in beginner pedagogy, for which I have created my own series of exercises that simultaneously teach the student basic technique on the clarinet while also teaching them counting and rhythm. I am an orchestral clarinetist, with many years of experience playing in many orchestras, but I have also played in wind bands, as well as other genres like flamenco, Latin music, and rock/pop. Music is fun, and while hard work and practice are important and essential, so is enjoyment of music and enjoyment of one's instrument. I work with each student on a case to case basis, each student has different needs and approaches, all of which I try and accommodate. I encourage my students to practice at least an hour a day, this can be done in ten minute intervals or whatever amount of time the student can maintain focus. I tell students about various brands and styles of the instrument, and products.. I use music books that the students can buy at the music store.
