I have been teaching private lessons for about eight years. My experience teaching in different classrooms helps me work with a large variety of students with just as much variety of skill levels. The most important part of music is connecting with the pieces you play. I provide students with the opportunity to influence certain parts of repertoire that they learn. They may pick a few pieces or songs while I help them build the skills they need to attain for advancement. Read More

In 2012 I graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies. Since then, I have moved to Nashville, earned my Master's Degree from Belmont University in 2014, and have began my professional career as a freelance saxophonist. I have had the chance to perform and record in some of Nashville's most historic venues and recording studios. I believe music is a powerful tool of individual expression, and I want to help my students achieve that same spirit in their own playing. Read More

Although my collegiate educational background is not primarily in music, I have vast knowledge of music theory, and understand that each student has individual needs. My biggest method that has the most success, no matter the subject of training is "I Do, We Do, You Do". When teaching a new musical concept, it is most important for a student to have an understanding of the principle. I would explain the concept, and give an example by demonstrating the concept (I Do), however many times the student needs me to do so, and they would practice the concept with me (We Do), and once they feel comfortable trying the concept on their own, I would have them demonstrate the concept for me until mastery is achieved (You Do). I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school. I always encourage doing a recital, entering competitions, and continuing on to college playing their instrument. I love motivating students and challenging them to be the best and nothing less. I am a dedicated clarinetists and private instructor, and I love being able to teach people of all ages and skill levels. I am a Sophomore Music Industry major at Middle Tennessee State University. One of my biggest enjoyments of the clarinet is solo repertoire, and I've participated extensively in competitions all over. I've also enjoyed playing in a variety of youth and collegiate orchestras, and find that orchestra is one more thing I am passionate about. Read More

I like to spend the first lesson figuring out what the student knows so that I can formulate lesson plans that are relevant and chronological. Once a rapport is established, I introduce material that is both accessible and challenging and help the student work through the music. First we work on playing the right notes and rhythms, then we add musicality and expression. Read More
