Over the past 10 years I have developed different methods of teaching musical concepts so that if the lessons don't make sense the first way I explain them I can teach it from a different angle. Not everyone can learn the same way so you have to be flexible with different teaching styles. I like to make sure the student learns not only what they need to know, but also what they want to know. My teaching style varies for each student's individual needs. For beginner students I often try the easiest way for the student to enjoy the lesson while also giving the most value in their time. It is my desire to show every student that they have what is capable of making great music, now. Creating a supportive environment for the student to explore their instrument in all ways and gain the understanding that everything they do on their instrument is an opportunity to learn and grow is of utmost importance to me. My teaching music can be dated back to 2003, as I first started out teaching a community choir in Frostburg, I then transitioned to teaching for Baltimore City Public School System as a Choral and Piano teacher from 2008-2014. I currently teach students in my home studio, and have been for the past 6 years. I have had experience teaching from many different curriculums and understand how to cater to each students' needs with an emphasis on patience and practice. Read More

I consider myself to be both traditional and old school at certain times, however. I firmly believe that students will lose interest in music quickly if I always teach all students the same techniques and follow conventional music theory. For piano lessons I usually begin without any books until they are comfortable with the weight and the feel of the piano keys. After that I really like to use the John Thompson's piano book grade 1, and I have had many good results with my students in the past. Read More

In college I took a woodwind pedagogy class because I wanted to focus my teaching on my primary instruments rather than a general knowledge of music. I began teaching professional in the summer of 2013 when I worked for the Bel Air School of Music(now defunct) as a Saxophone and Clarinet teacher. While I believe strongly in the importance of musical fundamentals, I also like to think outside the box as a teacher. Read More
Instruments: Clarinet Music
The first chance I met music was based on my parents’ view that it can build good a character for me. When the first time my mother asked which instrument I wanted to learn, I chose clarinet without hesitation, facing a dazzling array of beautiful musical instruments. From that time, I was deeply attracted by the exquisite appearance and the beautiful sound it produced. I hold my bachelor's degree from Xi'an Conservatory of music in 2016 and performance diploma from Michigan State University in 2018. Read More

For beginning elementary and middle school students I usually use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once my student has a working knowledge of the fundamentals, I introduce music that will build confidence and keep the student's interest. Although I am using a method book, it is just a guide. Along the way, I may supplement the book with other exercises to work on specific techniques. For adults, I first assess my student's skill level, and we talk about goals and a realistic practice schedule. Read More
