My teaching style ranges from student to student. For example I love to see my students develop whether they're coming to me as a beginner, basic, intermediate, or advanced student. If I have a gospel vocal student, I work with them on rifts and runs. If I have a classical piano student I work with them on fingering techniques. I have over 17 years of experience teaching Band Choir on every level from Elementary to College . Prior to my appointment at Coppin State University, I taught High school for 14 years, Elementary and Middles school for 4 through out the state of Maryland. My teaching experience began back when I was a junior in college. I started working with 2 high schools in the Daytona Beach area in the marching arts as well as private lessons. Upon moving back home in the metro Atlanta area after graduating, I began doing various clinics for high schools in the Dekalb and Fulton county areas in preparation for the schools spring concert band festival. I started teaching private lessons in high school, for free, to other students in the percussion section of both the concert and marching bands. Shortly after starting as a music major at Asbury Univeristy I continued to teach lessons. During my collegiate years I also was involved in taking private lessons and playing for all available percussion-needed ensembles (concert band, jazz band, orchestra, etc.). I tailor a student's curriculum to their musical goals and needs, while making sure that I am instilling the fundamentals needed for pursuing music at the college scholarship level. Often this means scales, chords, arpeggios, music literacy, performance practice and listening skills. To accomplish this, I use standard materials that are often available online and are used by college and University music programs around the world.
