I like to think of myself as a teacher that suits the student's needs. And since every one has a different way of playing an instrument, I will build a specific "curriculum" for each student. I am not a strict sort of teacher, I like to talk about what we are learning, show musical examples, play examples and generally just have a good flow in class. The most important thing is to learn that playing an instrument should be a fun, entertaining learning experience. Read More

I am a very patient and motivated instructor. I really enjoy working with students from beginners to advanced sharing my love of music. I was born and raised in Brazil (Recife) which I have a very good knowledge about all the folkloric rhythms from Brazil. I have been playing playing drums since I was 13 years old but I started taking formal lessons at the age of 16. In 1998, I studied at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles and in 2005 I studied at Drummers Collective in New York City. Read More

Hi everyone!! I'm a musician, drummer, and drum instructor with over 56 years experience. I look forward to working with all my new students through this platform. It's an honor and a privilege to be listed here and part of this group of talented musicians and instructors. As a drummer, I've been influenced by many and taught by the pros. One of my most memorable instructors was the late great Charles (Charlie) Perry, author of many indispensable drum books including the Art of Modern Jazz Drumming, Rockin' Bass Drum Books 1 & 2, Drum Solos in Triplets, Introduction to the Drum Set, and 8 Men in Search of a Drummer. For very young guitar students I use Dick Bennett's books 1,2, 3 to start and then as the students progress we will continue to Mel Bay books 1, and 2 then proceed to chord books and charts, some knowledge that i will personally pass on such as finger exercise's and scales, use of the I pad and some guitar apps as well. I will also share my library of songs with them and show them how to play songs they enjoy as requested. Read More

My teaching experience began after I graduated from college 5 years ago. I discovered a talented young drummer while working at a music store, cultivating and channeling his talent. I like to take the time and learn from my students what inspired them to want to learn drums, and what they wish to learn from the lessons. This information helps me to develop a unique lesson plan for each student.I have had experience working with both children and adults at all levels, and I highly encourage my students to enter any competitions, bands, or recital opportunities that are availbable to them, especially NYSSMA. For beginners, I like to start my students off by Practicing out of Ted Reed's Syncopation and George Lawrence Stone's Stick Control. From these books, we will learn basic Sight reading, Rhythms, cordination and technique . For any of my students beyond the beginner's lever, I like to find out what their personal instrests are: A new Syle, Technique or a song that they would like to learn how to play. Read More

For beginners, I always start with very basic technique elements such as the proper way of holding the drumsticks, how to position the drum set and having a proper posture while playing to build good habits right from the beginning. From there, I like to work on simple rudiments, and connect this with how to use the rudiments to play simple grooves. I will also bring charts with written grooves of popular songs and we will start playing along with songs, to get used to the feeling of playing in a musical context. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
