I began teaching before I attended Berklee College of Music, and have continued ever since. I teach out of my studio and travel to students homes as well. The main points of my lessons are to help you learn what you want to learn and correct any bad habits you might have. Primarily I want us to have fun together and learn in the process. I love listening to music with my students and checking out what interests you, along with recommending some listening choices. Read More

If you are looking to play a style of music but you don't know how to incorporate what you may have previously learned into that style of music, I will automatically show you how you can play piano in that style of music. Once you feel you have a better understanding of what that style of music wants you to play on piano, you will practice on your own and get a better feel for it and you will become a master in that genre, and on the piano in general. My teaching experience began in 2001, during an after school program. I facilitated a drum circle and taught lessons to kids from ages 8 to 15 years old. This lead to several parents of the students requesting private drum lessons. I have been teaching privately in student's homes over the last 15 years.  I find that defining the student’s goals, and centering the lesson around those goals keeps the individual inspired to progress forward. Setting goals is a very important practice for teaching. I am very easy going, kind and understanding. However, I expect there to be effort on the part of the student. I believe praise to be a better motivator than stoicism and I always make sure my students know when they are doing a good job and improving. There is nothing more rewarding than to see a student have a breakthrough on their instrument. Read More

Since every student has different goals I like to plan my lessons accordingly. I found it very useful to devide the lesson into 3 parts : Technique, reading and drumset studies. Whether the student is excited about rock, pop, jazz, hiphop or samba, this method creates a solid foundation for the drummer's ultimate goal - to groove on the drumset! To make the lesson even more fun and interactive, I love to work on playing along with recordings which give the student the feel of playing with his favorite band! Read More

This is my basic approach for getting a new student started at the drums.  I like to start students out on the practice pad at first.  This gives them a chance to focus on learning good technique and understanding basic musical notation.  Starting out on a huge drumset is not only a little overwhelming, but there is only so much they can accomplish until they grasp the basics.  Below is a general list of the things that will be covered in the first month or so for a newcomer to the drums. -Proper technical approach (grip, hand/ arm position, stroke) -Musical notation, note values (basic reading- quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets, rests, etc.) -Rolls (double stroke, single stroke, press) -Rudiments (flams, paradiddles, etc.) -Accents -Snare Drum Solos Various instructional books are used including- “Syncopation”, “Stick Control”, “Modern Reading, text in 4/4”, “Wilcoxin Book”, and more. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
