Since I started working professionally as a drummer at the age of 17, I have had the chance to perform in Europe, America, Africa and Asia, in some of the most prestigious live music venues, festivals and theaters around the globe. I have collaborated on projects with many bands and musicians across all genres from jazz to funk, rock, pop, flamenco, tango, world music and classical music. Since 2005 I have been a percussionist with the National Dance Academy in Italy, and I am currently playing for the Juilliard Dance Department in New York and the Merce Cunningham Trust in New York. For beginner students, the typical groundwork begins with a straight ahead, simple rock groove to begin a sense of understanding around coordination as well as fundamental understanding of rhythm behind the kit. From there, any natural ability will begin to shine, and it's through those natural strengths that everything else will be based on. Lessons topics can then range from technique, groove/feel, listening to music and musicians, various exercises, learning different genres, etc- all built around the students individual interests! We start by doing proper warm up exercises followed by learning or practicing rudiments. We work on our grip of the sticks and our movements while drumming. In other words, I teach economy of movement for maximum energy. If a student is flailing their arms, we talk about a more fluid movement by utilizing the wrists and incorporating finger control. Then we move on to reading out of instructional books which is then followed by practical application on the drum sets. With a beginner student I find Basix Syncopation for Drums by Alfred Publishing to be a very effective tool. For beginner level students I start out with learning how to strike the drum as well as simple coordination exercises and intro level drum beats. After the student can grasp basic exercises, I introduce learning how to read music which will lead to reading out of various drum set instructional as well as technique books. For more advanced students I work out of books focusing on furthering coordination and technique, widening the ability to play different styles, chart reading with play alongs, soloing as well as the students interests. 'Relaxed' and 'Musical' are the most important words to explain my teaching style. I enjoy the hang and I enjoy the music. Nothing we do will be purely technique based. Everything will involve music. We will never just read notes on a piece of paper! We'll listen to music, we'll always tie exercises back to things you already know and we will get to know one another's musical personalities. Wherever you are on your musical journey is the only possible place to be. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Thank you for taking the time to read this I look forward to working with you. Read More

I believe that the student is always important. They are the ones that come to me to learn and in exchange, i learn from them. I play many different styles of percussion, therefore when I first meet I introduce myself and tell the about me and what I do. And I ask them what their experiences are, what they want to learn and what got the them interested in playing drums and\or percussion. Read More
