I can teach many instruments that I have taught myself how to play well and efficiently. I play in many bands and I am always learning new styles of music. My best instruments are Piano, Bass, Drums, Ukulele, Guitar, Percussion, Harmonica, Recorder, Tin Whistle, Mandolin and also Trumpet. My secondary instruments are everything else. I can fool around on Violin, Cello, Banjo and Trombone as an amateur. I could blow into a Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, French Horn and probably anything else I can get my hands on, but I would not feel comfortable teaching them yet because I don't have enough time in the world to learn them and figure out how to play them myself and get as good as I can on those instruments. If I'm teaching a beginning drummer or pianist my first goal is to help them realize that music is fun and the ability to play it is a gift. One of the most important concepts I teach my students is the ONE MONTH RULE. Multiple studies show that it takes at least a month to establish a new habit or routine. How does this relate to music? With younger students, I make sure to communicate with the parents about their practicing routine. Read More

I realized the power of music at a very young age, when I first started singing in a musical theater workshop. I was incredibly shy up until I got to sing as someone else. The music transported me from my rather hectic childhood to a place beyond trouble, and only to freedom and expression. I was lucky enough to continue on this magical track when I was 10 with piano lessons, and then when i was just 13, one the most lively and angst-filled ages, with private guitar lessons. Read More

I'm a dedicated teacher with a lifetime of experience studying and performing all kinds of music. I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where I learned to play drums from my dad, an important figure in the music scene there, and by listening to and copying the drummers on my favorite records. I began playing drums professionally when I was 14, first with my dad on his gigs, and then with other musicians in Milwaukee. Read More

Instruments: Drums

For beginners, I start off by teaching the proper technique needed to achieve basic expression on the drumset. For more advanced players, I will help you explore tonal and sonic capabilities beyond what you may have achieved already. I have a background in teaching in New York City public schools, and as such I am very experienced in creating a lesson plan for the student if it is deemed by me to be helpful. Read More

Instruments: Drums

Brent started playing on pots and pans as a child and then moved to the drum set at the age of 8 with instruction from his two older brothers. He joined the school band and performed drum solos for entertainment at school events. Soon it became evident that being a drummer was his calling. Brent received his degree from Berklee College Of Music as a scholarship student and performed with many musicians in the Boston area. Read More

I started teaching kids in my neighborhood when I was 14, even though I had only been playing for a year! I kept it up thru highschool, teaching privately as well as being captain for the drumline, where I ran rehearsals and acted as liaison between staff and students. Since moving to New York in 2012 I have kept a consistent private studio. I emphasize making the instrument fun and a positive experience. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
