I encourage my students to set short as well as long term goals so that they can have a timetable of tangible results as motivators to get to the next level. I always take into consideration the amount of time that we have together (number of lessons per month) in order to reach these goals so I am able to keep everything on track. Every lesson is going to be structured with a few fundamental topics (snare technique, sight reading, styles, grooves, and soloing). Read More

I'm very laid-back but focused. I expect students to work at this and put forth the effort. I also understand that life happens and a student may have missed some practice time. I'm okay with that. My teacher did that for me so I'll do the same for my students. I don't believe in over-criticizing a student. I like to positively reinforce accomplishments and good habits and take the time to explain and fix issues that need improvement. Read More

After college I continued to gig professionally, tour, and record and kept up a private studio where I taught upright bass, electric bass and guitar. I kept working and added voice, piano, drums and ukulele to the roster of instruments that I could teach after working for BandWorks- a school of rock- and at the Bird School of Music. I've played a diverse range of music from Afro-beat, Latin, Latin Jazz, RB and Soul to Rock, Funk, Hip-Hop, Pop, Avant-garde, Jam, Americana, and Bluegrass and it has helped me to see the fundamental similarities that exist in all styles. I have been teaching privately since 2010, when I accepted a position as a teaching assistant at Bowling Green State University. My responsibilities included teaching private lessons to undergraduate percussion majors and coaching percussion ensembles. I also began teaching students from middle school through high school age around the same time, and my students have since included those of adult age. I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels of experience, as they all bring something unique to their lessons and allow me to bring out aspects of my personality that will engage them best. I encourage and explain aspects of music theory in addition to playing techniques in lessons. I like to find out what kind of music my students really enjoy and I integrate that into my lessons. Seeing my students succeed is a very rewarding experience and I tailor my lessons to ensure that sense of progress and accomplishment is developed every week. Read More

Each student learns differently and I accommodate and tailor my lessons accordingly. Percussion beginners will build their foundation on the standard snare drum rudiments and Moeller technique. So will the professionals. Beginner guitar students will focus on tuning the instrument, basic chords, scales and playing techniques. Read More
