I'm a firm believer in self motivation. Having a good teacher is important but having a great student is paramount. I love to develop concepts that work for the individual student whom I'm relaying ideas to. Whether it is theory or academia or the idea of honest expression, all these facets of teaching have always been inspiring to me. I can mock up many different playing situations to accommodate any level of player. Read More

I have been teaching for 7 years and under those years I have taught first timers and more advanced players and helped players get better at drums. I first started teaching friends kids and it grew from there and more people asked for lessons and I made more time for it and really feel in love with teaching. After this time teaching I feel I have a better grasp of what tools a student needs to get better at drums and how to get straight to the problem and fix them. Read More

I am an active percussionist currently based in the San Fernando Valley, but my passion for music has brought me all over the world. After earning a Bachelors degree in Percussion Performance from Humboldt State University under Dr. Eugene Novotney, I continued my musical studies at the University of Ghana in West Africa, and have since been to 21 different countries in search of exotic sounds and rhythms. I have recorded drumkit and percussion on over a dozen albums, and have internationally and domestically toured with Cleopatra Records artists Hedersleben and Nik Turners Hawkwind. Read More

I approach teaching as a purely collaborative endeavor. In initially meeting a student, I ask many questions in order to gage what has inspired the student to study drums, and what particular genres of music and/or artists have brought them to the point of lesson inquiry. I use this information to construct a plan that seeks to meet both short-term and long-term goals. My teaching style is very high-spirited, laid back, yet, demanding - with a touch of fun humor. I primarily use original material when I teach, but occasionally Ill work from standard method books such as Stick Control, Master Studies, and Syncopation, or assign pages from more recent books like John Rileys The Art of Bop Drumming. Ill also pull out books specifically for sight reading such as Anthony Cirones Portraits in Rhythm. For beginning and intermediate students I focus on fundamental technique, basic sight reading skills, and drum set playing (independence/coordination of the limbs, relaxation and balance, time and groove, fills and solos, introduction of musical styles, etc.) For advanced students I get into more conceptual and creative aspects of playing the drums, but I also introduce the Spivack/Wilson technique which I learned during my studies with Murray Spivack and Richard Wilson in the 1980s [check out the 4-part series featured in Modern Drummer magazine in 2011-2012]. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
