I believe that the key to a student's success in music is being motivated by passion. That is why I like to tailor each student's learning experience to their own individual interests, allowing them to press forward with the particular source of inspiration that motivates them to learn. It is a healthy combination of focus and enjoyment that results in the most enriching learning experience, which is why I make sure every exercise I assign a student comes with an understanding of the distinct purpose and goal of the exercise. As a educator and musician, I bring a lot passion and fun to everything I do. Knowing my students goals and helping them reach their goals are a top priority. As the great Muhammad Ali once said, “If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it - then I can achieve it.” Those words are something I instill in all my students. I believe in my students and, whether it's music related or not, I encourage them to be they best can be. Read More

As students progress, they can move on to drumset studies. I can focus on whichever style of music interests the student, or I can present various styles (Rock, Latin, Funk, Jazz, etc.) All of the ideas learned in the previous lessons will be applied to the drumset. Areas covered will include: -Beats (Rock, Swing, Bossa Nova, Samba, 12/8, etc.) -Fills -Soloing -Reading Charts -Time/ Feel -Dynamics I am very patient and flexible. If there is anything that the student specifically wants to learn or doesn’t want to learn, I’m all ears! I’m here to teach them whatever they are interested in as well as to introduce them to something they may not have experienced before. Read More

This is a technique that drummers have been using for decades to achieve power, efficiency, and fluidity on the drums. Level 4 is where you’ll take your technical abilities to a new level, begin to play in different time signatures, and start exploring new rhythmic concepts like half-time feels and filling over the barline. You’ll also be introduced to jazz, blues, and rock ballads, in addition to learning how to develop musicality within each new style. Read More

We start by doing proper warm up exercises followed by learning or practicing rudiments. We work on our grip of the sticks and our movements while drumming. In other words, I teach economy of movement for maximum energy. If a student is flailing their arms, we talk about a more fluid movement by utilizing the wrists and incorporating finger control. Then we move on to reading out of instructional books which is then followed by practical application on the drum sets. With a beginner student I find Basix Syncopation for Drums by Alfred Publishing to be a very effective tool.
