I began teaching 19 years ago and as one drum student grew to two, then to the occasional piano and guitar student, I eventually was teaching 35 students weekly.  I've been lucky in that I have taught such a wide variety of ages and skills.  I've taught actors to drum for roles, writers the lingo of the jobbing musician, and family bands pop songs for the school talent show.   I've always been open to scheduling whatever is easiest for the student, and I'm happy to do in-home lessons but since I began teaching the technology has advanced substantially. During the first lesson I always assess where the student is the learning timeline with their instrument. I also find out what the student's goals are with music. Once this has been established we work on a plan of action to acheive those goals. Since the vast majority of drum students are primarily interested in learning drumset skills, we will start working on this from the very first lesson. Hi! I moved to Los Angeles from Australia this year to further explore my love of music, performing, teaching and law! I have played the drums for 25 years and have been teaching for 15 (as an instrumental teacher and a classroom music teacher). In Australia I completed Bachelor of Laws, Graduate Diploma in Education and Bachelor of Music (Majoring in Jazz Drums) degrees. I use patience, clear communication, and having fun to get knowledge across to my students! To me music is about connection and expression, and my goal is to get my students to feel that! I also understand that learning new things can make you vulnerable and frustrated so I try to be more relatable as opposed to an authority figure with my students.
