My methods vary depending on the level of the student. I heavily emphasize fundamentals with beginning students, and I try and make them understand the importance of the essectial rudiments and hand coordination before moving on to the drum set. With intermediate and advanced students I emphasize drum set, while still practicing the fundamentals. After my undergraduate was completed, I began working at a franchised music eduction school for a year and a half. I had 20 students ranging from keyboard, drums, vocals, and I also was a Show Director for the various shows put on each season. This experience was invaluable as I refined the way I should handle lessons one-on-one as well as how to manage a group. I try to instill the drive and discipline that any musician can benefit from. With beginners, I focus on the fundamentals like working out of George L. Stone's 'Stick Control' and introducing rudiments while focusing on overall technique. I also work out of a book called 'A Funky Primer', which is a drum set book that has hundreds of different beat combinations. Depending on how the student progresses and what their overall goals are, I eventually begin to introduce difference genres and styles and more complex and challenging approaches to the drum set. I studied music in middle school and high school through wind ensemble, jazz band, marching band, show choir, and private lessons. During this time I also attended music camps at McNally Smith and Berklee College of Music. I then moved to Nashville and graduated from Belmont University's School of Music. My musical pursuits started in the 5th grade when I began playing in school band. Throughout Middle and High School I played in All County Jazz and Symphonic band. Upon my graduation I was accepted into Berklee College of Music on a merit-based scholarship and received my Bachelors of Music in Drumset Performance.
