My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 15 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical, gospel, christian, jazz and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. As almost any instructor will tell you, the methods I use depend largely on the student and their abilities. Younger students usually benefit from learning to read music and a beginning method book is usually helpful. I strongly believe that ear training is the key to musicianship so I use the material we cover in lessons to help students develop good aural perception. I know that understanding music theory is crucial for communicating with other musicians. Read More

I am a passionate musician and educator. I have sung around the world, have had one of the best educations imaginable and love to pass along my experience to my students. I have worked with classically trained singers and musical theater singers alike. Some have gone on to sing at opera houses and some sing for enjoyment. I enjoy teaching beginner and intermediate saxophone students, and beginner piano students as well. Read More

I began performing solo and touring around Europe with a Jazz-Funk band, The Freeks. At the same time I began studying at the Grazyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Lodz, Poland to finally move to Miami and graduate from Florida International Univeristy with BA in Music. I performed for Royal Caribbean International Cruise Line for 5 years, which included teaching piano classes for the Royal Caribbean Academy. I am a session studio musician and during the summertime I teach music production at one of the studios in Miami. Read More

I break down the overall goal to a small step that is doable for the student. I am nice and patient with students, meanwhile, I insist on they accomplishing my instruction. It is fine if it takes several tries, but most importantly is that they had to try. Practicing is a way to learn from the mistake and how to avoid it. Practicing also teaches us how to be patient and doing it efficiently leading to success. Read More

My teaching style is always based around engagement. Letting the student select what he/she wants to learn is paramount to any style of study. I have found that my best teachers played as much as i did during lessons, and not just played but really showed their passion for playing! This is very important to show a student. You only have more and more fun the more you play. Read More

I customize each lesson specifically for my students so that they remain satisfied and fulfilled with what they are learning. Each student has different interests and its my job to build a music curriculum around them. I usually encourage my students to have both a method book for fundamental skills, and a performance book with pieces that they want to learn. We will decide this after the first introductory lesson. What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
It’s important to start with a warm up, then scales, arpeggios and chords. I like to play the piece I’m working on, page by page and go back and work out mistakes from just a few measures at a time.
Play slowly! Then gradually speed up until up to tempo.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
I think piano lessons can be started when the students hands are big enough to reach across the five white keys and the students can sit still and focused for half an hour.
When will I start to see results?
You should see results right away if you practice regularly.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
Yes! My private clarinet teacher was very encouraging as she had such a passion for music and performing and gave me so many experiences playing that were fun and memorable.
My middle school band director and piano teacher were also influences in my decision to study music as a career
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
Actually my Mom chose piano and clarinet for me - she chose well and I’ve been very happy with both!
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’m really proud that I studied organ as an adult and played in a few church services. I was really surprised by how different the technique is from piano and how challenging the floor keyboard would be to master.
Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
My piano students have received special awards at the piano guild competition.
My elementary choir has one many first division ratings at choir contest and several of my students have gone on to study music in college.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
See above answer on musical accomplishments. ????
What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I love classical music, especially from the romantic era. Now, I’m a little more interested in impressionistic music, though. (I’ve been playing a lot of Debussey) I like to sight read from Baroque music and blues. ????????????♂️
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I do play more than one instrument. I can perform on piano, organ and clarinet. ( I don’t play clarinet too often any more, though)
I have also played saxophone and flute and taught lessons on both. Since I was an elementary music teacher, I can play recorder and xylophone pretty well. ????????♀️
I can also sing. ????
Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
My husband and I met as music majors in college and both got our mater’s In music at the same time. He is an excellent jazz drummer and has played in symphonies. Now, he is an education professor at FIU.
My oldest daughter plays piano, violin and guitar and both daughters sing well.
