I am an enthusiastic music lover and a very patient teacher. I believe that music is one of the liberal arts that can complete a person. It is an intimate way to express oneself. My Bachelor degree specialized in music education, and I volunteered to teach all kind of students in rural cities in Taiwan. To enhance my teaching skill, I am always looking for new ways to explain the concept. Read More

Of course in adults the methodology can not be the same as for a child, since normally depending on the age, it will be more developed or less the cognitive part, depending on the age it will be the type of pedagogy used, for example in children from 5 to 10 years old the level of requirement is less than one between 10 and 15 years. In adults, progress will depend if you have developed a musical and rhythmic ear Read More

I first began teaching when I was appointed by my professor to be the tutor for music theory and beginning guitar class at the college I was attending. From 2011 until spring of 2014 I worked as the music director for an elementary school. I taught all music classes for pre-K to 8th grade, taught private lessons and directed after school bands and choirs. Here I also gained experience teaching autistic and special needs children. My teaching experience actually began in high school when family friends noticed my skill and asked me to teach their kids. I then later accomplished many things while in Houston, Texas (where I previously lived) including live concert performances with the William Byrd Institute, instruction under renowned professors of music, and starting my own private home based lessons. I also spent a few months teaching at a popular music academy in San Antonio, Texas where performances, group lessons and recitals were all encouraged. Read More

Since teaching was easy for me I've shared with students all along as I myself worked on my skills. I've had the joy of studying under great masters and I've modeled my teaching style around them. I'm eclectic when it comes to musical styles for I myself had too many loves. I'm trained in classical and jazz disciplines but have performed/recorded and produced others styles such as rock, pop and latin. Read More

My philosophy is if it isn't fun; nobody wants to do it. My method of teaching provides simple psycology in making praticing fun. The piano needs to be praticed every day if the student wants to progress! For Children I teach pop and classical piano, where as adults I try to find out why they want to play and what style of music they would like to play. Many adults don't desire to be a concert pianist but, If you'd like to play for fun; maybe play at a party to entertain your guests and you would like to play popular music; there's a class specialized for that. I have been teaching music for the past 25 years. First in the Public Schools in Tennessee and Florida and at the college level. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

When will I start to see results?
Obviously, it depends on each person, and their interest in learning, the time they have to practice the instrument as well as the success in the approach of the musical pieces and the ideal repertoire for each student.
Some of my students have had to take more time than others to understand how to play a piece of music, but they are so determined to do so that in the end they succeed.
On the other hand, teachers must be clear enough when it comes to reminding students (and their parents!) That success in a field of human knowledge does not mean that we will succeed in everything we do in life.
Some of us have a great visual memory, others a good ear, others a great physical capacity (with fingers, for example, on the piano).
In any case, you did it great, keep practicing!
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
ALL my teachers!
In my case my teaching was always inspired in the saying "no pain, no gain".
As I always was certain in developing a musical life (more than a career, a life), today I am grateful for that advise. I always was lucky because that besides that saying my teachers give me opportunities and lots of love, comprehension and faith in my talent.
With all my experience, today I put before the love, the enthusiasm, the encouraging, the perpetual stimulus and positive attitude and the faith in my students. They will discover on their own, that they have to do their best in everything they do to succeed.
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Again, each person is a world in itself.
Some have more time and /or interest to practice.
Especially children, you find them overwhelmed for the amount of conventional homework they have to do each day. Some of the students will probably not study as much as they should, but the key, I should say, is to do it every day, independently of the time they have for it.
Other matter is the way in which they have to study. I give to my students several hints of how to do the effective studying in contraposition to the general thinking that studying more time is the key. It is, I believe, more important how do you study.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Everybody is ready to start lessons, really.
Now, once said that we should address the theme of if are the parents or the children (hopefully both!) who are interested in music lessons.
Sometimes, the kid does not understand why has to learn anything related to music when what they want is, for instance, dance, or do some sport.
So the parents should talk to those children (not easy and requires a lot of love, I know it as a parent!) and explain the immense benefits for their psychological and spiritual development but also to help them with the study and comprehension of other fields of knowledge as are Maths!
In any case I will say, give music a chance!
