My teaching style is generally laid back. I believe that a student will only work as hard as they want to, and I have little control over that. I focus more on finding out what will make the student want to work hard, rather than forcing them to study something that does not interest them. It's all about getting the student to have a positive musical experience. That being said, I do my best to hold my students accountable, but try to do so in an encouraging way vs. a nagging and controlling way. Read More

I Try to get away from mechanism without joy. Everything has to be close to the music. Exercises to be actually doing them with a rhythm and time. Other than doing things musically, practicing in different times and intentions help a lot for the student to be open to play songs in different ways. Technique and theory are necessary tools. To apply concepts musically they need to do it with musical taste. Read More

I have been teaching lessons in my private studio and at studios in the LA area for the last 7 years. Through my experience I have learned how to make lessons fun and engaging for my students. I also have experience preparing students for recitals and coaching them on various aspects of live performance such as stage presence and stage fright. From a four year old that can't speak english to students much older than myself, I have seen it all! Read More

The most important is to undersrand what a new student's goals are with their music education. I wouldn't want to push someone to do something that they simply aren't interested in, but I usually am able to help someone develop interest in areas that they don't already have an interest in. For example, many beginning drummers are sure that they only have interest in playing drum set for a band. Read More

I use a developmentally appropriate approach for preschoolers based on the Music Together curriculum. For ages 6 to 8, I offer Musical Safari, an overview of many instruments with basis in theory, solfege and reading, helping children and parents make the right choice of instruments based on the student's interest. For adult voice I favor the clippinger method added to my choir master experience where besides the technique, I customize the songs you want to learn with personalized arrangements in your most comfortable key. I believe that everyone of all ages can benefit from music lessons. Learning an instrument relieves stress and promotes optimal health. I believe that we are all creative being and music is a creative outlet. Researchers have found the acedemic potential of the student is increased by taking lessons for several years. I love helping others finding their own personal voice and helping them to get on their feet as an artist. Read More

In later years, I came to appreciate teaching more, because I learn a lot from my students as well. I teach drums out of my home studio in Van Nuys, CA. It is a private studio space in a friendly environment. Here I have 2 drum sets I can play with. I have happy students and we work on all kinds of different things. One of my drum students didn't even know how to play when she started! Read More
