The following are books that I start my lessons with. In addition, I supplement with materials that my students are interested in learning. If there is a particular song or style that they would like to learn(and is reasonably within their ability level or I am able to modify), I work to teach it to them. Drums: ***The book chosen depends on a student's level and personal goals, but these are great books to start with: Drumset For Preschoolers by Andy Ziker(for students ages 2-6, or students that would benefit from a color-coded system initially) The Drumset Musician By Rod Morgenstein and Rick Mattingly(great for beginning drum beats!) Alfred's Drum Method(for learning rhythms and rudiments) A Fresh Approach to the Drumset by Mark Wessels with Stanton Moore(teaches an intro to a variety of styles, including rock, samba, jazz, etc.) Piano: Alfred's All-in-One Course This book has simple, child-centered lessons that are reasonably paced, teaches beginning music theory, and allows students the opportunity to write. I grew up in Stephens City, VA, where I started playing drum set professionally at age 16. Piano, guitar, and songwriting came soon after, and in 2005 I was awarded the Jazz Studies Scholarship from the University of North Texas to study drum set with the world-renowned educator, Ed Soph. At North Texas, I participated in the 6 O'Clock Lab Band, Advanced AfroCuban Ensemble, Chamber Brass Band and Brazilian Ensemble, and soon after, was commissioned to compose original music for the computer game Wriggle Words.. I started playing drums and percussion 12 years ago, both classically, and privately trained. I was taught all play styles, and approaches to percussive arts. In high school, I was apart of a drum line and in 2015, I started drumming in a Rockabilly group in southern Illinois. Shortly after, I began to fill in for a rock band, jazz band, and another rockabilly band in the area. Since moving to Texas, I have started to teach with Hays CISD as a guest teacher/tutor. I customize the lesson to the student through the basics of music and exercises. An instrument is your personality and I work close on my students progress throughout the time before they know it they are ready for their first band setting. I like to push my students to the next level and to their potential not all students are cut out for this business it takes a lot more than a pat on the back my students have to realize if their goal is be a music teacher or a hobby weekend musician than yeah you might want to go with the more structured teacher but if your in this to be an artist than I'm that guy. I like to teach with books but also with songs. It's all about having fun! I have different routines and practice methods. The idea is to keep things positive and challenge free. Working with a metronome is a key factor for finding the right tempo to make sure that the student will feel comfortable while he or she is practicing the information. The idea is to break things down to a point where things are doable and super easy to deal with . Read More

Music makes life awesome! Sharing my passion and love for music is what I do. I graduated from the Musicians Institute in 2012 with a degree in drum performance. There I was able to immerse myself in music, get hands-on training and learn from world-class instructors. Through the school, I met bandmates, recorded for different artists and learned how to be an educator. My musical journey has brought me to "The Live Music Capitol of the World", Austin, TX. where I make a living playing music professionally. Read More
