Instruments: Drums Music
Every one of my students begins with a combination of pad work and time behind the set. The first thing I establish is technique as it is the foundation to moving around the set and becoming comfortable. My aim is to have fun, so the first short term goal is to be able to play the fundamental drum beat! We later add more and build upon it. Students typically can play this beat after just a couple of lessons! Read More

Life is bigger than just music. I enjoy my students not only learning what I teach them but enjoying themselves as they are learning. My job as a music teacher is not only to teach them but to also inspire them entertain them and motivate them. Music isnt just a craft but a form of art that can be therapeutic and enjoyable. and I want to see my students to be able to have the access to the spirit of music so that they may thrive and not see what theyre doing as work but as something that they love. Hello! I'm a passionate and motivated instructor that loves to teach students and various styles of music. I graduate from Bethune-Cookman University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and in 2010 with a Master of Music degree in Music Performance from Georgia State University. The knowledge and experience I've gained throughout my educational experience has afforded me to perform on various projects including a a Cadillac commercial for the Super Bowl in 2005 and an appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show. I have the most Experience using the following Method Books: Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Accent on Achievement, Instrumental Methods and many other methods. Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. Next the focus becomes proper grip for mallets/sticks and embouchure placement for winds. Read More

For beginners, I recommend Standards of Excellence and if the parent's budget allows, a subscription to Smart Music which can monitor and record daily practice and inform a student of minor errors so growth can happen between lessons. For intermediate or advanced students, I like to establish a well rounded warm-up routine for their practice and move into solo repertoire appropriate for their level. For adults, I like to cater towards their goals and desires. Read More

During my lessons, I remain very flexible. Every student is different. We all have our good and bad days. Staying tuned in to my students helps me know what they need at any moment. Sometimes we need to push a little harder, and sometimes we need to slow down a bit. The time of day, the weather, the time of year and many other factors affect how a student feels when they sit down to work with me. Read More

My teaching style is unique because it revolves around having fun with music. I believe that more traditional forms of teaching can be too dull or too urgent, leading to disinterest. Once you become disinterested, you're far more likely to quit - and I don't want you to quit! Learning to play an instrument is one of the most fulfilling accomplishments that a person can achieve, no matter the age or skill level. Read More
