I like to find songs that students really care about, because then they will be more interested in learning them. My teaching style is very flexible in that all students are different, and learn in different ways. Ive taught really young kids and Ive also taught seniors. I find it fun meeting new challenges and seeing what new musical abilities I am capable of. I teach music theory, piano, drums, guitar, bass, and voice. Read More

My teaching experience started while I was attending high school. I began working at local band camps over the summer during my senior year and I found the experience to be cathartic and extremely rewarding. At the beginning of my college career, I started working with several band programs as an instructor and private lesson teacher. I have been actively teaching students of all ages since 2007. Since 2015, I have proudly served as an instructor during the summer for the percussion ensemble at the world class, Colts Drum and Bugle Corps. Read More

I started my life as a percussionist in 5th grade. Once I hit high school, I knew music was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I still remember what it was like to perform with friends, in front of parents, on stages and on fields. Those moments still push me to be a better performer every day. I started giving lessons while in college working on my Bachelor's degree in Music Performance. Read More

Growing up with a music teacher for a mom, I began playing piano, learning music theory, and sight-reading at age 5. After years of studying piano, I expanded my musical journey by picking up the trombone, bass, guitar, and drums by the age of 12. I am a passionate instructor who loves to watch students grow and develop. The majority of my teaching experience has been in the realm of sports and physical education, however, I have a deep love for music and it brings me joy to share my gifts with others. Read More

The primary responsibility of a music teacher is to cultivate music literacy; an understanding of music from both a fundamental and holistic standpoint. Fundamentals would include: technique, sight-reading, rhythms, scales, arpeggios, rudiments, chords, etc. Holistic concepts would include: music history, music theory, ear training, ethnomusicology, etc. My ultimate goal for all of my students is to help them become independent and enthusiastic musicians. I want them to be able to continue to learn and grow as musicians when their time under my instruction is over. Read More

Regardless of what percussion studies a student does and does not want to pursue, I start with a strong focus on the nuts and bolts of percussive technique. Doing these techniques can open the door to any number of advanced percussion areas. However, just because rudimentary techniques are necessary doesn't mean they can't be fun! Whatever area of percussion a student is interested in, we immediately begin applying the core areas of technique to that area. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically like to start with rudiments and technique studies. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will introduce the Moeller method. Later will move to the drumset and apply all 3 methods and became to develop what I like to call he groove and bass excises and different warm ups. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
