I established the Stanton School Afro-Brazilian Drum ensembles, the Orff Ensembles and three choruses. I have also taught at the collegiate level at Eisenhower College for 8 years. I played clarinet with the Auburn Chamber Orchestra and the flute and piano as a soloist for community events, weddings and church services. I try to take each student as an individual with their own unique personality, likes and dislikes, and motivations. So I enjoy customizing a lesson plan that is as individual as each student. For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. Most beginners benefit from a method book, such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, which is a good starting place for most students. As students progress on their instrument, I choose the method books and solos that will best help them develop their talents as well as keep them engaged in the material. My teaching experience dates back to my high school days when I began teaching private lessons part time, and started a program for underprivileged students to have group lessons and perform throughout the community. I also have five years of experience teaching middle school and high school music in public schools. I love to see my students enter various competitions and perform in recitals.
