I had my first teaching experience working with elementary students as a private instructor during my senior year of high school. I continued to work with beginning and intermediate students throughout college teaching everything from beginning instruction to jazz improvisation. I graduated from Temple University in 2011 with my Bachelor's degree in Music Education.  I was a saxophone major, but I have also studied piano since the age of three.  I enjoy performing in musical pits, which is where I picked up the flute and the clarinet.  I am currently a choral teacher at the high school level, but I have previously taught in a K-8 school, as well as several years in a daycare setting with very young students. For beginning students, I am willing to work with them on the book they are using in school band. I also like to use other flute technique books, such as Rubank, Melodious etudes, and flute duets as well. When the student has developed a confident tone and technique, I will introduce solo repertoire that is at a comfortable level for the student, as well as eventuall getting the student to learn the beauty of collaborating with a pianist or other form of accompanist. I'm a passionate and curious musician. I'm self-taught in the styles of classical and jazz from when I picked up the clarinet I found at a Salvation Army at the age of 10. I taught myself until I started college and studied with Kelly Lake, Stephanie Gardner and currently with Jeff Quamo. While working toward receiving my Masters in Clarinet performance at NAU, I taught music theory and aural perception at the undergraduate level. In addition to teaching I've had two pieces written and recorded for me along with a couple tracks on a comedian's recent albums. I received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Arizona State University in 2019 where I studied with Dr. Christopher Creviston, world-renowned soloist and soprano saxophone chair of the Capitol Quartet. Throughout my collegiate studies, I performed with a variety of groups at ASU including the Jazz Repertory Band, the Wind Ensemble, and the Virtus Quartet, in addition to performing with Breakthrough Indoor at the 2016 WGI World Championships and with the ASU Saxophone Choir at the 2020 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference. I tend to be a teacher on a stricter side as that is how my music teachers were back in Europe. I find this style to be working with my students as they do accomplish their goals and win various competitions. Depending on the age and students goals (professional musician or just playing for fun) I adjust my style accordingly. Even if the student only wants to play for their own enjoyment I still find a way to make the material challenging for them to improve their skills, technique, musicianship, and thus make it worth their while.
