Hello! I am a flutist and piccoloist who is passionate about teaching others. I am currently working towards a Masters in Flute Performance at Colorado State University. I just recently graduated from Florida State University this December with a Bachelors in Instrumental Music Education, a Bachelors in Music Theory, and a Specialized Study in Flute Performance. From 2004 - 2014 I taught all Band Instruments, Piano, Violin, and coached singing lessons at the McCord Gallery and Cultural Center in Palos Park, Illinois. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons 15 years ago, and have been teaching students at my home and at students' houses. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I emphasize for my students. To truly become an accomplished musician, a student must be motivated to practice daily. My teaching style is fairly easy going. I don't force unrealistic expectations on students because everyone is learning music for a different reason. I like to figure out what their reason is and progress accordingly. If it's a young student looking to continue music throughout their school career, I will make sure they learn how to read sufficiently and I will make sure they know how to play with peers by performing with the student as an accompanist. During both my doctoral and masters degrees, I worked as a Teaching Assistant in the flute studio. Along with teaching private lessons to undergraduate students, I have experience leading studio classes/group lessons, technique/scale classes, and I designed a semester-long class titled, Teaching Technique through Repertoire, which I later presented as part of a pedagogy project.
