When teaching older students and adults, I feel it is helpful for me to find out what kinds of music they enjoy listening to, so that they can learn these pieces on their instrument. I encourage my students to practice and set goals at each lesson. They would be able to work at their own pace. Playing duets with the teacher is also a fun activity, and listening to good players recordings will inspire them.
