For flute, I use method books by Trevor Wye.  If the student is a beginner, I will start the student with the Beginners Book for the Flute by Trevor Wye (Book 1 and 2.)  Once the student is finished with these books, the student is now ready for the intermediate and advanced books by Trevor Wye.  It is a set of 5 books that focuses on each aspect of the flute, such as tone and technique. I was an assistant instructor for San Jose State's Summer Flute Institute, which involved giving private lessons, teaching beginner-level flute classes, coaching an intermediate chamber group, and judging a advanced-level performance competition. To me, music has always been an emotional outlet, so while I do place a large emphasis on having the fundamental skills necessary for performance, I also really value and emphasize musicality. I want students to feel like learning the flute is accessible, and I love seeing them progress at their own pace. I also want students to have ownership of their learning process – if there are songs/skills that they'd like to learn, I'd love to work with them to figure out how they can achieve those goals. I first picked up a Yamaha flute at my public school in the 5th grade and it changed my life. I traversed conflict-countries carrying only my flute, I was welcomed to cities and performed alongside renowned musicians in places like Havana, Seattle, Ramallah and Beijing.
