I have been given so many opportunities to teach students of various ages. I was an assistant instructor for San Jose State's Summer Flute Institute, which involved giving private lessons, teaching beginner-level flute classes, coaching an intermediate chamber group, and judging a advanced-level performance competition. David began a successful career as a free-lance musician, performing in various venues in New York City, Philadelphia, Atlantic City and the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area. In addition, he also taught privately in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs. Since relocating to Sacramento in 1999, he has continued to perform as a free-lance musician in Northern California, while maintaining a private teaching schedule in Sacramento. I am happy to work on standard classical flute repertoire, contemporary flute repertoire, and music in non-classical styles. For young piano students, our first few lessons will be dedicated to posture, hand position, basic rhythm, and learning note names on the piano keyboard. We will then progress to music reading. I usually use Faber's Piano Adventures series for fun, level-appropriate pieces. We will also continue to play rhythm games and ear-training games in order to develop musicality. Read More

I don't have any experience at this time but I think that it is very important to get a regular constant practice schedule so that they can understand and practice the key points that were taught to them. I will give the students some classical music and modern music because I know that it will help the students learn if they play something they would like to play. I find that when teaching just reading a book and rote playing isn't enough. I like to use scales, singing, and creative composition to get my students to think outside of the box and learn to independently create music while learning theory basics. I like to help my students be one of a kind and be in love with the music that they are creating...if they don't look forward to coming to class again, then I know I haven't done my job fully.
