As a member of an indie rock band, I understand the importance of being able to play songs on your instrument as quickly as possible! With this in mind, my lesson plan focuses primarily on breaking down songs that we want to learn how to play into their fundamental parts; the chords, the grooves, the fills, what-have-you, until we can put it all together. If there's a song that's particularly difficult and requires sound fundamentals, then we'll pound out those skills until we can get the results we want. Read More

I'm farely new at teaching and the idea of it hasn't appealed to me till the beginning of 2017. There has been more moments than I can count where I had to teach others the art of music. I've worked for many different customer service jobs and have accumilated over 4 years of experience in that. I feel that I will be able to apply these skills to the teaching experience and perhaps grow as an idividual. Read More

For beginning students, I usually start by creating a strong foundation in the student's mind of why they want to learn how to play an instrument and what goals, if any, they initially have for themselves. I then utilize this to help create individual based lesson plans that are driven by the inner workings of the student's mind. I incorporate music theory into every instrument at every skill level because I believe it to be something that is extremely important to understand and that not a lot of students are exposed to before they get to college. It is important to me that each student progress at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I make sure to always acknowledge accomplishments to help fuel the student's desire to progress and make them eager to learn more. By finding out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

Ill have flute/guitar students learn current hits that they love and use them to teach improvisation. It all depends on the student. I teach songwriting. To that end, I may have the student come up with a hook, write a poem, or even an idea for a song about something that is meaningful to them. I help them form the melody, chord structures and song structures. Sometimes, its possible to record what the student has come up with. Read More

Understanding the individual differences between the group members will make the experience more enjoyable for all members. For example, a musical piece that matches the average level of the group members can be efficient in letting the lower levels to improve their skills. On the other hand, the higher level will learn how to take the responsibility of leading the other level. Finally, based on my experience I believe that teaching does not only mean that the students will learn from their teachers. Read More
