My teaching can be broken up into two columns: the craftsman and the artist. The craftsman column is all about chords, scales, and technique. The artist column is all about musicality and expression. I believe that learning through songs you love is one of the best and most fun methods of learning and understanding an instrument. The musical devices that are used in all your favorite songs are universal to music, so you'll be learning techniques just by playing along to your favorite songs! Read More

That's the most important thing that I try to stick to in my teaching style, letting the student do the work and figure things out for themselves. For example, bringing a song to a lesson and wanting to learn it, but instead of just figuring it out and writing it on paper for them, I let the student work on it, and maybe give them little nudges in the right direction here and there. At first, students may require a lot of assistance to get through the material, but as they progress, I teach with the intention that they will one day be able to look at a piece and teach themselves without assistance from me. This can take quite a long time and usually requires years of dedication and study. I encourage students to understand the music theory behind the songs they play so its about a lot more than simply memorizing notes on their instrument. Read More

I start my lessons with asking the student to give me their top 10 favorites songs that they would like to learn and based on their level I will select one song to start. I start with the essential elements of theory and basic chords. Once the student has progressed I will beging to introduce different styles of music to find out what the student is interested in, and build a lesson's plan designed specifically fot the student and keeping the motivation and fun classes regardless of their ability level. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar for Kids and Bass for Kids methods. At the same time, I assign exercises that will help develop the students technique. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I try to find out what kind of music the student is interested in, and guide my instruction to keep the lessons interesting and engaging. Read More

I started Piano lessons at 6 and quickly received classical training to 12 years old. I have been playing professionally since 14 years old. I have enjoyed a freelance career as a music teacher, composer. performer, recording engineer. producer, and a multi instrumentalist. While being exposed to the intricacies of many styles of music growing up, I have developed a life long passion for studying those different genres. I attended Edward Williams College and Fairleigh Dickenson University where I studied Piano and Guitar, and graduated with an Associates Degree in Media Arts. Read More

While I aim to help students become their best, I ultimately want them to have fun above all else. I believe progress looks different for everyone, and I am very patient and happy to go over something more than once. Learning an instrument is more of a marathon than a sprint in my eyes, and I hope to guide each student on their own musical path. Lessons can range anywhere from simply learning about the instrument itself, going over foundational music theory(notes, chords, scales, intervals, and so on), learning site reading and tablature and the benefits of both.
