I like to focus on songs that students are interested in. I also recommend certain books to be used as supplementary learning. For children guitarists I recommend Alfred's Kid's Guitar Course. For older guitarists I recommend Hal Leonard's Guitar Method. For children pianists I recommend Faber Piano Adventures. Read More

My approach to teaching is personal, flexible, and student-centered. I will start by finding out what the student knows already, and what the student wants to know. What kinds of music do they want to play, and why? (For instance: for fun; accompanying themselves singing; performing in front of people; becoming professional.) If the student can play some samples of songs they would like to learn, all the better. Along the way, some basics will surely be covered (chords, scales, basic music theory, various instrumental techniques). Read More

I use a large number of methods. However, the chosen method or path is highly dependent on each students age, experience, musical interests, and allotted time for daily practice and study. Regardless, I suggest implementing a full curriculum encompassing study of repertoire, technique, musicality, theory, and music history for each student. Therefore, I prefer briefly conversing with each student before choosing a distinct program. Read More

I'm a professional musician who is committed to keeping the art of music alive through the education of new musicians. I graduated from Berklee College of Music as Summa Cum Laude in 2015, getting my Bachelor's of Music after completing a four year performance major track for guitar. While there I was fortunate enough to perform in one of the first Heavy Metal Operas entitledQueen Boudicca: A Metal Opera. I have been performing with metal bands, rock bands, swing big bands, and top 40's cover or tribute bands for the past nine years. Read More

The student is not responsible for purchasing any books or material, as I provide everything to them. For children I love teaching simple 1 finger versions of two chords, to give them an instant gratification and the knowledge that they really can play guitar. For older students, I am able to completely design a lesson plan around their interests and favorite styles of music. I like to ask the students during the first lesson to name a few songs of any difficulty that they would eventually like to be able to play, and the lesson plan we follow will inevitably reach one of those songs, providing the student with a great benchmark for their success and inspiring them even more.I also incorporate light ear training into my lessons, as your ear is your strongest asset as a musician, and I am able to break down the musical genre barriers to show students that all music truly is the same, and it is all attainable. I took guitar with Michael Engberg there for two years and also took fundamentals of music, music business, music technology, and a song writing class. I transferred over to Metropolitan State University of Denver and began my Bachelors degree sequence under the wing of Alex Komodore. I graduated from Metro in May 2014 with a Bachelors Degree in Classical Guitar Performance, and the experience thus far has been amazing. I love to teach and I love to learn about music as well as people who desire to be musicians. Read More

This will vary given the student's abilities and particular intentions for study. In general, I focus on five distinct areas of learning: technique, theoretical understanding, reading, intuitive playing/learning by ear, and performance. I like to keep each lesson fluid and organized, by maintaining structure within segments of study. Within these segments we may venture into something unanticipated, so long as the student expresses interest, readiness, and the ability to learn. Read More
