The first teaching concept I focus on is the capacity to produce great sounds with the least amount of effort. Therefore I spend some time in getting the student to play very relaxed to create a relationship with body and mind, I believe music is an extension of the body and so if the mind and body are relaxed then music will come out flawless. I am a working musician and actively published musicologist. My career as a concert musician began in the 1970's with youthful performances around the US and Canada. In early 2006, I was included in Who's Who in American Women and Who's Who in Education in America, and in 2009 was added to the roster of International Who's Who in Music. I attended Wittenberg University (sacred music) studying conducting and orchestration with John Williams and Ian Polster, New York University for humanities, and the Mannes College of Music (MM classical performance and theory), studying with Robert Secrist, Frederic Hand, Charles Kaufman, Julius Levine, Yakov Kreizberg, Leo Edwards and Marie Powers and completed my graduate library studies with Jane Gottlieb at the Juilliard School. My scholarly work has been focused on the performance, documentation, historiography and promotion of music and performing arts. For beginners to the guitar, bass or banjo I usually start with the basic notes and chord shapes. When they progress and for more advanced students, I introduce reading tab, music, scales and basic chord progressions. For advanced students I generally work with modes, finer technique and advanced sightreading, chordal and modal melodies. For young students, this may look like playing music games and echoing tonal rhythm patterns to help develop a vocabulary.
