For me, the most vital aspect of teaching involves creating a self-motivated student. I believe that you can do this by teaching music that is of interest to the person you're teaching, and by introducing material that is graded in such a way that it is always a little bit more challenging than what your student is used to (no matter the level they happen to play at). If a student has no reason to practice by themselves, and if a sense of curiosity and desire for exploration and accomplishment haven't been developed, the teaching itself becomes obsolete. Read More

I'm an encouraging and driven instructor who happens to also be a Singer-Songwriter and Producer. My curiosity for music started at 3 years old. I've since attended a Edward R. Murrow high school of performing arts where I learned to hone my voice whilst learning guitar. I kept growing in musicianship throughout college, where I had started recording my music. I grew in artistry and performed some of my own works in New York, Philadelphia, and New Jersey. Read More

I began teaching while studying at Oberlin College, and have since taught private lessons everywhere I've gone, from Shanghai to here in New York, including bass, guitar, piano, music theory, and ensemble coaching. I have my own private studio, and have also taught private lessons at Art's House Music School in Coney Island and Pelham Music Arts School in Pelham. In addition, I have taught classroom music classes through Third Street Settlement Music School. Read More

After finishing an apprenticeship in carpentry and becoming a certified carpentry journeyman, I worked as a trade showroom carpenter in Berlin and Vienna. For my mandatory conscription in Austria, I served as an ambulance paramedic. I obtained a bachelor's and a master's in music and dance performance and education at leading universities in Salzburg and Barcelona. From 2008 to 2011, I worked for the University Mozarteum Salzburg, producing, light-engineering, shooting and editing final performances of graduating students using professional studio camera equipment and software. I believe that it is important for students to understand that music is a language that transcends their instrument of choice. When they understand that music is its own language, the possibilities that they were not aware of become open to them, such as easily learning a second or third instrument. If the student or parents request a set curriculum as in the book form, my main go-to book is The Best Guitar Method by Brian Rivers. Read More

For beginners, I like to focus on proper position and proper technique. This is done by making sure students sit properly and we will begin strengthening right hand and left hand via arpeggios and simple etudes Aimed to focus on these areas . For example , Mauro Giulianis 120 etudes for right hand and other methods like carcassi and we will advance as time comes. For flamenco , we start with basic techniques of flamenco , rasgueado, alzapua and arpeggios . Read More

I focus on nurturing a students natural curiosity, while helping them find the tools to pursue their own musical interests. Many of my younger students prefer to use technology to connect with music (learning how songs are recorded, and the theory behind songwriting), but I also work with more serious students to prepare for college auditions, state/regional jazz band, etc. My methods differ depending on a student's own goals, but they generally all will start with a technical exercise, an exercise designed to get the student thinking critically, and an application of the concepts we're learning.
