Recognizing and celebrating their achievements, both big and small, serves as a powerful motivator, inspiring them to reach for new heights in their musical journey. Taking inspiration from Victor Wootens philosophy, I strive to discover what truly inspires each student. By understanding their musical preferences and aspirations, I can tailor my instruction to their specific wants and needs, ensuring that every lesson is engaging, relevant, and deeply meaningful to them. My main repertoire for teaching comes from William's Levitt's "A Modern Method for Guitar". It comes with Three Volumes, and from beginner to intermediate anywhere in the book is a great place to start! From basic music reading to learning different positions, I believe that these books provide a cornerstone for even the more advanced players to refresh on in the beginning! I also strongly encourage students to bring in whatever songs or pieces they are passionate about and allow myself to build a curriculum based on their tastes and musical preferences. Read More

For my beginning students, I teach the INstrument first. What each knob does, the names of the strings and the names of every note on the Bass/Guitar/Keyboard.The Major and Minor scales come next but examples of each are played for the student so that the color of the scales become familiar. I teach how to communicate with other musicians. Charts, Tabs and Nashville number systems are included. Read More

For piano students, I prefer Alfred's methods, whether the adult or for beginners. For band and orchestra, I use Essential Elements (or whatever their school is using), and supplement with Rubank's methods. For voice, I concentrate on whatever the student is interested in, with a foundation of good technique and understanding of the voice range and how to control it, with some solfege and sight-singing mixed in. Whatever the instrument, I follow and listen to the student to understand what they need, and change my curriculum to suit them. Read More
