I started teaching privately close to 20 years ago and it has led me to teach in a variety of settings. I have taught in both public and private school and individual and group lessons. I encourage students to develop a consistent practice schedule and also create very individualized curriculum for students and their musical goals. I keep students motivated by engaging their interests while developing their technique, love of the instrument and musicality. Read More

I approach teaching as an avenue to inspire others. Making mistakes are just as important as playing something perfect. I like to stress that perfection is not the goal but feeling good from playing your instrument is. It is very important for my students to practice outside of lessons. I try to encourage that through positive reinforcements verses just saying you have to practice this lesson over and over. I make my guitar lessons fun which keeps my students coming back. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my time in high school, as I taught group guitar lessons with the Franklin Community Education and Recreation Department as well as private guitar lessons from 2011 to 2013. In both of those environments, I typically taught children ages 6 to 12, most of whom were beginners on their instrument. I found these lessons inspiring and enlivening; witnessing the sense of curiosity and wonder my students had as they began to make their first sounds made me excited to teach and to grow with them each week. For all beginning students, I usually will take a lesson or two to assess where the student is at regarding music, depending on (if any) previous experience with music, e.g. piano lessons, etc. For trumpet students, I am not beholden to any one instructional method book. Usually, I will select whichever one I feel the student will be most successful utilizing. A couple of examples of method books I use are Standards of Excellence and Student Instructional Course. When working in private lessons, I work with each student to set goals, both long and short term. I then assume the role of a guide whenever possible, rather than an authoritarian figure, so that sudents can discover concepts for themselves vs. having the information given to them. When students discover the concepts for themselves, they tend to understand them much better because they have learned them through practical use. Read More

What is your dream piece to perform and why?
I have so many dream pieces to perform, but one of my dream piece to perform is Beethoven moon light. It is such a unique song that no one has ever thought of but Beethoven, and it inspires many piano players that would want to play it. It is one of my favorite pieces since it requires a lot of concentration when playing it also requires a lot pattern thinking when playing. A lot of his sons are all based on that and such more that goes beyond our imagination. Just listening to what he plays and feeling the feeling that he had that he played, is one of a kind.

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
If I was not a musician I would be teaching chess. Teaching chess is like teaching music but in a different way. Chess is all about strategy thinking and coming up with your own position throughout the game. The same thing applies with music. Is about decision skills and knowing what you want to play knowing how you want to do it. Chess involves so many things like visualization, calculation, tactics, strategy openings, and end games. I woud teach chess and it is something that i also love doing.

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
My favorite music style is rock, since rock is the first genre i first started listening to. I would learn the pentatonic scales and so much more. I would get a better understanding throughout music with rock. I would look up utube tutorials about so many rock artists. For example slash, and get inspired but him. I would use a lot of his soloing patterns and apply it to my own style of playing. I learned so much from him that I can't stop learning from him. I really love his solos and his own style of playing His unique.

If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I decide playing the second by learning the basics of one particular instrument. Knowing what I've learned of the rest of the instruments and applying some knowledge from what I have learned and start to go along with it. Playing more than one instrument has expanded my own knowledge of music and has had gave me a new perspective in life. I know that if I learn a new instrument that I never knew how to play that I can learn quick. knowing that I already know a lot of instruments from behind It just takes a lot of time and practice.

Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
Music does run in my family. I Have 3 older bothers and 2 younger sisters. One my my two older brothers his name is Rolando. He can perform really well the keyboard and with ability tempo, and beat. He has a natural talent that no one in the family knew until later on in life. My other brother 's name is Brian, he can play the guitar, drums and a little bit pf keyboard, He has a talent in drums and can perform the drums at his max of his ability. My sister Genesis has the ability to song phenomenal. All majority of my family has the ability the play a specific type of instrument.

When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I decided to become a professional musician at the age of 20. For me it was a defining moment. A moment when i did not know I had the talent for playing and teaching, I discovered it when i was 15 and ever since then i never stopped teaching and playing. I started teaching everyone in my family and in school. Everyone would compliment for my ability of playing but would never really pay attention since I knew that I I wanted to improve more. I always had the passion, and desire to muisc at any age and make it work for them.

When I Was Your Man Chords for Beginner Guitar (Bruno Mars)

...is there a progression change but the texture of the tune and the accompaniment pattern also changes.         Wrap-up   I hope that you’ve enjoyed learning the When I Was Your Man chords as much as I did in preparing this lesson for you. During the intro for this piece I mentioned Bruno Mars’s influences. I encourage you to listen to those artists and discover where Mars got his inspiration from. This tune is a beautiful piece of songwriting that has moments that seem, to me at least, to be inspired by The Beatles.   Thanks for hangin’ with me and... Read More

Make sure that your students (or their families) have your contact information too, so that if they have an emergency or are otherwise unable to make it to your lesson, they can let you know. Some teachers and music programs like to have an electronic media presence, like a web page or a Facebook account, which everyone can click into to read for the latest updates. The Benefits of Classical Voice Training

...the most rewarding result of classical voice training. Instructors who teach classical technique are thorough, causing the student to truly learn the ins and outs of his or her voice. The singer will learn to sing with the lyricism required for long, slow phrases, the agility to sing swift runs, and everything in-between. The student will leave with the confidence to explore other genres and apply their technique to non-classical singing (doing so is strongly encouraged by most teachers). Developing a classical foundation for your singing opens the door to virtually any style of singing.   Music History and Appreciation ... Read More

How to Write a Song

...to get you comfortable with setting words to music.   Chord Progressions Everyone’s songwriting process is bound to be different, but I normally gravitate toward beginning the process with building chord progressions. The type of chords you choose and how you decide to present them will determine a great deal about the song you’re writing. If we think of a song like a house, the chord progression is going to be the foundation. Melody gets all the love and attention, but it wouldn’t even exist without a thoughtful chord progression. If you’re new to the songwriting game, I recommend starting with ... Read More

Can You Learn Perfect Pitch?

...Sound of Music, specifically the song “Do-Re-Mi.” If you haven’t ever heard “Do-Re-Mi” give this clip from it a listen, not only because it’s an amazing part of musical theater history, but also because it demonstrates solfege perfectly.     If you haven’t taken any singing lessons, you should, because practicing vocal solfege exercises increases your ability to identify pitches. The “do, re, mi” exercises you learn in voice lessons teach you intervals. If you know that a piece of music happens to be conforming to a given scale and you can identify the root note of that scale (referred to as ... Read More
