Getting the student to feel confident, no matter the amount they have played is important to me. I'm a laid-back, happy person and that reflects in the way I teach. There are SO MANY ways to start learning music, so I don't necessarily believe in forcing students to read sheet music of classic standards. I started out with chords and tabs in middle school and that has given me the ability to figure out most basic-intermediate songs by ear. I went on to learn to read sheet music in college and if reading music is something that interests the student, we will of course pursue that together. Read More

When working with younger children, I use the Children's progressive method for guitar and for the older students I use the Hal Leonard guitar method books 1, 2 and 3. As my students progress, I supplement the lesson with songs that my students enjoy and want to learn. I also focus on ear training to help students musically hear what they are playing. Whether it's voice, guitar, ukulele, trumpet or recorder, hearing the music inside and being able to internalize the music is very important to becoming a well rounded musician. Read More

I'm very encouraging and patient! I really think everyone goes at their own pace and anyone can get to what's fun about music for them with some practice. I'm here to help in any way. And am great at looking for what makes you tick, specifically, and then structuring lessons around what is inspiring and exciting to you. I try to make more technical aspects fun and help people through the initial phases of awkwardness or discomfort with a miminum of stress and allow to feel okay with the process and enjoy the progress that comes.
