I've played music for over half my life now, and guitar has shaped my life for the better in ways I've never thought possible. Throughout that time, I've taught lessons on and off for the past 7 years. I have always enjoyed teaching, and passing on my knowledge and hopefully my passion for playing the guitar and songwriting has always been a wonderful experience. One of my favorite things about teaching is that when I dissect every element of my playing to be able to teach it to someone else, by the time I've shown someone else a new technique, I've found that my own playing improves. My methods vary according to the student. If the student is less than 12 years old, I like to use the Hal Leonard Method 1 book. If the student is 12 or older, I may still use the Hal Leonard book, but I assess the students goals, and find out what they would like to learn. Whatever style of music the student is interested in learning, I believe in teaching proper posture and sound technique. For anyone interested in learning classical guitar, I recommend a book titled Pumping Nylon by Scott Tennant. Read More

For the past 20 years, I've studied and performed with keyboards, guitars and woodwind instruments while exploring a very wide variety of music ranging from classical and rock to jazz and avant-garde. Expanding and sharing that knowledge with other people in a helpful and friendly manner is something that I consummately enjoy- especially if they're beginning where I once was. My education includes a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from DePaul University, and I've been working on my Music Education Certificate at UMSL since August 2014. Read More

I never imagined God had plans for me to be a music teacher. I had taken piano lessons for about 15 years (later adding recorder, guitar, violin, clarinet, saxophone, and cello) and was working as a front desk receptionist in a music school when a teacher notified us of an unexpected long-term absence. My boss--who had known me for almost 20 years, and who taught me piano-- approached me and said she would like ME to teach the affected students. Read More

I love to teach my students the basic tools of what it takes to be a professional musician, whether or not they are into music as a hobby or as a serious profession. I currently play drums for the hit Broadway musical (non-union version) of Rock of Ages and when I'm not on the road; I'm teaching. I’m an avid columnist for Modern Drummer Magazine and I sing/play guitar for one of Chicago's best Nirvana tributes called Smells Like Nirvana. Read More

I am a singer, violinist, and songwriter that thoroughly enjoys helping students get closer to music and find their sound. Over the past 10 years, I have fronted multiple bands and I have backed or recorded for other artists such as Prateek Kuhad (NYC/Indie - singer-songwriter), Baby Alpaca (New York City - soul pop), The Vampyre Bunnies (New York City - punk rock), Valley Shine (Los Angeles - folk pop), Orlando Vick Jr. and Divine Glory (New Jersey - gospel). My methods vary depending on the background and interests of the student. Typically I shy away from tabs since I read music notation. I do recommend learning the basics of reading music for anyone who is thinking of self study in their short or long-term commitment to any instrument. I usually suggest to the parent or student, that they research method books for guitar basics. Many times, a family member or friend will have a method book that will be more than suffice if it is a standard method book. Read More
