I generally ask what your musical interests are and then I find a method specific for each person. I work on identifying chords, improvisation, playing melodies and song writing as well. I am a fan of William levitts books or jazz guitar which is a method I learned at berklee and is a very useful book for picking teqnique in a fun way , exploring some classical etudes for electrical guitar and i find this to be a great tool for developing speed, ear training and identifying chords with different sonorities to them. Over the last 20+ years of teaching I have developed an approach of customizing lessons to suit every student. Since students tend to have widely varying degrees of experience as well as goals I have found that this is the best approach. I will always sit down with each student and together we can figure out what it is that they would like to do, and what is the most straight forward way is to get there. Read More

I base my students' curriculum on their individual needs and interests. I strongly believe in learning fundamentals and the principals of music through scales, music theory, ear training, and reading music notation. I believe it is equally important for students to develop their own musical interests and goals so that we can apply all of the practiced skills in a fun and meaningful way. An example of this would is if a student wanted to learn a Beatles song I would have the student learn the chords and melody, but also the associated major/minor scale that song uses and develop an exercise that would be helpful towards learning the song. Although I grew up with Hal Leonard and the Real Book (and have access to those if need be), I personally do not prefer to use any specific book in my lessons. I like my students to have a blank manuscript notebook with them at every lesson where I can write down scale shapes, chords, notes, and homework each week; this makes it easier to structure things around what they want to learn, rather than what the book wants them to learn.        I have taught music since 1994, when I was in college. What was at first a part time job blossomed into a full time job when local music stores and luthiers began recommending me. I have a strong roster of about 30 students, and maintain it mostly through word of mouth and recommendations. I teach out of my private studio, as well as people's homes. I have trained students for recitals, recording, various types of bands, and competitions. Read More

My love for teaching began as a peer tutor in college. I tutored students in piano, guitar, bass ear training, and music theory. I began to love teaching when I noticed the change and progress it creates within people. While in college, I taught at a musical theatre camp as a music teacher. I taught music theory, ear training, and vocal music. Right after I graduated college I was accepted into the music education program at Teachers College Columbia University where I received my masters degree in music education along with certification in New York state to teach Pre-K through 12. Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I don't have a primary instrument, but if I had to narrow it down, I would say Piano, Bass, Drums, Ukulele. Those are my favorite instruments to play and those are my best instruments out of all of the instruments that I play. I can play pretty much any instrument, but banging on drums is probably what makes me the happiest. I can express my emotion and use dynamics to express different moods and feelings. I would love to teach others my primary instruments, but also other instruments I play to make the world a place full of musicians that play all kinds of instruments.

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
I am most proud of playing with others and joining a musical community where I can play with others and make friends and new family members from it. I got the John Phillip Sousa award in High School for being the best student in the entire orchestra for four whole years. Only one person gets that award. I also got to perform on live television which was a great experience. I am in many bands. One of them is currently making a music video. Another one is recording a professional album and when done, the album will be sent to a friend who works as a scout for Razor and Tide records. Another band just recently played at some fashion shows, a museum, and we are working our way up the ladder and getting closer to really getting our music out there. Another band I am in has nine pre-grammy nominee awards and a music innovation award for their songs and music videos and we play at a festival in Brooklyn, New York.

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
Even though I am pretty young, I spent a lot of my life teaching myself how to play instruments and I have been performing for around five years. That experience is what I needed in order to teach others how to play instruments to the point where they are so good at it, that they can perform live and feel comfortable playing around others. I haven't had any students yet as this is the reason why I have joined the Musika Community. I plan to teach students to the best of my ability and once I do that, we will see how many of my students decide to perform music to the point where they will have a chance to win awards or get special honors.
