For over 47 years I have played and instructed guitar. I began playing back in September of 1967 at the age of 10, on an inexpensive acoustic guitar purchased by my father from a pawn shop. I am self taught and learned to play by watching other guitarists, reading guitar instructional books, and listening to record albums. My passion for the guitar grew exponentially when I started getting better at it. I have a lifelong passion for music, with my passion being in drumming and percussion but having a great deal of experience in trombone and a strong knowledge of guitar as well.  I graduated from Wesleyan University in 2008 with Honors in Music.  I have just recently traveled to Ghana for a 10-month trip to study traditional drumming, Afrobeat drum set style, and more. Teaching guitar and bass began for me around the same time I stared gigging seriously. People who were at the show or even people in other bands would come up and ask if I gave lessons. I developed a lesson plan and began teaching. I have taught both beginners and advanced players but most of my students have been just starting out. Through my program, my students typically learn how to make music with their instrument relatively quickly as I believe that is a key factor in keeping them interested in playing. Read More

After that I received a bachelors degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas and then a masters degree in trumpet performance from the University of Texas at Arlington. I keep a busy schedule as a freelance musician and perform regularly with the Dallas Jazz Orchestra. I also do the occasional the tour with different groups.
