I focus on making sure student is comfortable and not lost at any point . Realistic expectations are important and we will assess these case by case. Pedagogy is extremely important to me as the future of many players is in the hands of a good teacher or a bad one. A bad teacher will harm a student and a good teacher will make sure no bad habits are developed . We will try and make it as fun as possible but classical guitar and flamenco guitar are very demanding so lots of practice is encouraged to maximize your results . Read More

As I have said before, I always like to structure my lessons around my student. If they are not having fun, they will not learn, and then I won't be doing my job ! Lessons are structured around songs that they like and what makes those songs unique. I like to teach some fundamentals about guitar, then relate it back to the song. I cannot guarantee that any student will learn any song by the end of one lesson, but I can promise that they will be one small step closer. Read More

Phase 5: Advanced Bar Chords Here is where we will significantly diversify the knowledge base of chords. This will include 7ths, Major 7ths, 9ths, diminished, and more. These are some jazzy sounding chords that are off the beaten path! This phase also focuses less on memorization and more on deduction. Using some light music theory, students will be able to know why these chords look the way they do and how to form new ones. Read More

I like to make my lessons engaging and fun. For students who are beginning their guitar journey, I like to start with the basic fundamentals of guitar, such as teaching them the body of the guitar (head stock, tuning pegs, string names, frets, how to hold and use a pick, etc.). We then will go on to learning how to position their fingers on the guitar neck and frets to play notes, learn chords and eventually, once they are ready, we will start working on age appropriate songs for the students to learn. I believe that a passion for music is something to be celebrated and nurtured. It's my job to help it grow. I still remember the first time I was able to play my favorite song on guitar. That feeling never leaves you. Instruments are hard, but with consistent practice and enough inspiration, I believe every student can achieve a level of proficiency. I follow the students in the directions they are inspired to go. Read More

Having taught well over 300 students over the last 10 years, Jason does not subscribe to any one particular method of teaching, no matter if it's guitar, voice or bass. The pursuit of music and creativity is unique to each individual and, therefore, each individual needs to be taught differently to help them discover and maximize their own abilities.Jason is a highly accomplished musician who believes that learning to read music and understand music theory is vastly important, but doesn't use the same approach, resources, books, etc. for each student.
