I am a professional guitar player, composer and educator. In 2008, I graduated from Michigan State University with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Composition. Prior to that, I finished programs in Europe as a guitar player in 1991. I moved to the United States in 1994. From 1995 to 2001, I've completed Master's degrees in Guitar, Composition and Electronic Music from University of Maine and Cleveland State University. I start beginning students that are interested in learning to play guitar with rhythm for the strumming hand. I will then move on to the fretting hand to finger positioning as well as learning the notes (on the guitar fingerboard) as heard at concert pitch. For beginning students both children and adults, I typically start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence books. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. Once the adults have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction towards that interest, all while keeping the lessons engaging and fun.
