Playing is a big part of the creative process, in that it involves experimenting and finding new ideas, thoughts, and processes that work best for each individual and that will lead to the perfect practice and the excitement of performance. When a student is ready, I will encourage them to do some suggested performing opportunities. The most important part in my teaching style is my ability to cater the lessons to each individual student. Not every student is on the same level or interested in the same things. It's important to keep the student interested and help them truly uncover their passion for music by letting them lead me to the appropriate places they want to go. I was then invited to move back to my college town of Brookings, South Dakota to be their middle school band director. I moved to Sioux Falls and taught in the Catholic School System for a number of years.
