I focus in simple exercises and patterns so the student gets familiar not only with music theory but also with the mechanics of both left and right hands. I like to make these exercises based on music that my students like, for example if you love Metallica or AC/DC I will create an exercise based on one of their most popular songs. I encourage all my students to learn the basic rudiments of music including music theory, sight-reading and playing ‘by ear’. I recommend Mel Bay’s “Children’s Guitar Method” and Hal Leonard’s “Guitar Method Book 1” for school age children. However, many of my students have decided to concentrate on learning basic theory involving chords and scales to develop ability to play ‘by ear’. When working with voice students I focus on basic theory, breath control, and vocal scales to develop student’s ability to discern musical intervals. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson, working on every aspect of music: Technique, Music Theory, Repertoire, sight reading skills in a fun a didactic way. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Read More

I do like cover a lot of ground in my teaching. This is why we learn everything from to read, write music, harmony, rudiments or scales, warmup exercises, music theory, playing songs, improvising, and more!!! I use multiple books, techniques and resources acquired both through Berklee College of Music as well as others I've studied along the way. I always try to customize classes to the student's primary needs (learn songs, play in a band, learn music, etc). Read More

My approach is focused very much on performance, technicalities, and theory. I believe it is very important for the student to understand how these aspects of playing coincide with each other, and how they are equally essential to music playing. Before giving a student a piece of music to play, I will always play it befoehand and dissect the song into portions that I feel need special attention. I encourage playing with other musicians, and always try to teach the art ofimprovisation, so that the students can learn to play not only by themselves, but with other musicians, using the musicial understanding that it takes to improvise. As mentioned previously, my Philosophy is this: think like a learner so that learners are able to learn from someone who thinks like them. I like to start my lessons from the very beginning which is tuning the instrument, so that the instrument sounds good. To me music is about 10% technicality and 90% feeling. Because you can play through an entire piece without any emotion and it won't be enjoyable because it doesn't feel good. Read More
