I began teaching years ago and have pursued it off and on over the years. I have taught in students homes as well as my own home. I encourage everyone to try to learn an instrument as an outlet for creativity. Practice is as deep as you want to make it, but if you are looking for serious improvement and development I suggest at least 30-60 min a day. However, any amount of playing and practicing is encouraged! Read More

The material I teach covers scales, chords, and music theory. We can practice a variety of exercises that help improve your rhythm and dexterity. In order to tie everything together, I think it is important to play music with each other and along with recorded music as an example. Admittedly, the content of scales, chords, and music theory in itself can be dry. This is why I tend to customize how to practice something like a pentatonic minor scale. Read More

I like to have a very laid back, fun lesson for every student. Reinforcing that every person learns at their own pace is very important, as well as teaching good practice habits. I also like to remind everyone that mistakes are normal, and that even the best musicians make mistakes quite often. Listening to music is a must for any musician, so I often like to find and listen to a little music during lessons as well. Read More

Whereas typically, particularly in pop music, musicians don't cross genre styles , but specialize in one particular style. I was equally comfortable playing classical, jazz, RB, funk, soul, rock, or metal because , understanding music as I do, I understand that , no matter what style or genre you play, you are going to be using the same 12 notes, but just in different ways. This comprehensive understanding is what I strive to deliver to my students. Read More

My teaching style is very personal. I feel the need to truly know my students in order to best help them progress. I like for my students to be open about concerns and weaknesses in their abilities. I try to help them to analyze their own technique rather than have me tell them directly as this will help them to progress outside on the lesson and therefore more quickly. The greatest feeling is when a student comes in already having an idea of where they want the lesson to go for that day. Read More
