For small children, I like to teach from the same book I first learned how to play guitar from. But, for older students, I like to base our lessons on their interests. Generally, I will ask a student if there is a song they really like. If so, we will learn the song by ear, or by sheet music for those interested, and break down all of its pieces. Then, once we understand the inner workings of the music, we will apply it to different situations. Read More

As mentioned before, I learned that I have an affinity to make the music fun. It's never just work with me. I believe that a musician has done his/her job not when he/she can channel the energy of the music onto the listener. I love watching a student's face light up when they are able to play a lick or a statement that they never thought they would be able to play, or when I see the proverbial lightbulb going on atop their heads. My teaching experience started while finishing my second program in college in 2016. With a career planned, I was ready to start sharing the ways of the fretboard to my students. With that, comes something thats most important, dedication. With dedication, you start a practice strategy, whether you want to memorize all the 12 major scales in all five CAGED patterns, or learn Hendrix's "Purple Haze" there must be dedication. Setting goals is very important to learning music, or your instrument, achieving is when you've finally reached what you've strived for, and challenge is when you take your goal and add some "spice" to it, whether it's playing faster, or learning the modes of the major scale. I tailor my methods specifically to each individual student's goals and current skill level. My personal goal is to progress each of my students as quickly and confidently as possible in the direction that he or she wants to go, whether it be becoming a great lead guitar player on electric guitar, or getting chords and strumming down so they can play their favorite songs, or being able to improvise over backing music. My music is an explorative collage of rhythm and harmony that incites emotion, creating a wild and memorable experience for listeners. I source inspiration from an array of influences, ranging from Miles Davis, to The Beatles. My musical pieces are born during a 3–4 hour session at the piano, and refined through excessive scribbling, and endless rehearsing. In the past year, I have expanded my professional development to work as an educator, and a scholar of music. Read More

I have various methods for different styles. For all students (classical and nonclassical), I will assess their abilites, skill level, and what their musical interests are. Beginning students will be given a list of hand picked lesson books and written notes based on each lesson focusing on technique, basic music theory and note reading, and learning how to play basic songs. Intermediate students will be given a list of lesson books based on their preferred playing style (Ex: Jazz-Hal Leonard Jazz Guitar). Read More
