Back in Brazil I attended the Federal University of Paraiba where I got my undergraduate degree with concentration in Music Education and Cello Performance. For adults, I will start with basic musical training and then we will move on to a repertoire that the student is interested in learning. My methods adapt to each student, their age and their level. The books I use go from the Suzuki books to the traditional Fouillard, Popper or Sebastian Lee methods. The repertoire would also depend on the student needs and the type of music he/she wants to learn. The age of the student is not relevant to me. Since the begining, I focus on sight reading and learning repertoire strategies. I believe that if the student is capable of reading and learning the repertoire quickly, he or she will become much more motivated and the act of practicing will be something pleasant. I like my students to fell they practice because they like to, and not only because they have to.
