Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
There are many acceptable method books for beginning students, however, I have found that if a student gets relatively comfortable on their instrument before trying to decipher a grand staff, they seem to enjoy the learning experience more. The hardest part of teaching music, in my opinion, is the educational content that isn't in a method book. Finding someone who can play your instrument better than you can often be more inspirational than finding a new piece that is slightly out of your comfort zone or using a method book that, at the end of the day, is supposed to help a student reach the ability level of the person the student aspires to be. I have been using the Alfred Method Books for my beginning piano students, as they provide a well-rounded program incorporating theory, technique and performance. pieces. Intermediate students should, in my opinion, begin to choose the music they want to work on. I like my students to learn how to read music as well as play by ear, how to practice and how to incorporate theory into performance. Most of all, I want all my students to deeply feel the joy of music making, and discover the vast universe of music that we all can share and enjoy. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Trumpet
For beginning piano students, I usually begin with the Alfred Prep Course, supplemented with a notespeller to help expedite learning to read music. I also begin ear training, chords, and solo repertoire as the student becomes ready. For voice students, I begin with breathing, vocal technique, and skill-level appropriate songs. For all students, regardless of instrument and experience, I aim to set goals together with them and use each lesson to advance toward the completion of those goals! Read More

My teaching style is formal, but very friendly. I like to establish a connection with the family and student, making it easy to keep the family updated on the student's progress. I can be somewhat in-formal at times, but only in a way that makes my student most comfortable with me and his or her instrument. I do maintain a regimen, establishing a goal to reach week by week, according to the learning pace of the student. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs for them to grow as percussionist and general musicianship. Read More
