I am currently working towards my master's in saxophone performance at the Hartt School of Music, so I am relatively new to the greater Hartford area. Many of my students have been successful on stage, in auditions, competitions, and in gaining acceptance into music schools across the country. For elementary students and some middle schoolers, I usually either work out of Standard of Excellence or Essential Elements book 1 to begin their studies or continue where they left off. For high schoolers and more advanced middle schoolers, I like to have them play solo flute pieces that fit with their ability level. For young beginning students (usually ages 5-7) I would begin with the Hal Leonard Piano Lessons Book series. After I feel that the student can properly read music and understand fundamentals of the piano I will begin to incorporate other methods such as Piano Adventures and the Bastien series. When the student gets older they will begin learning solo repertoire that is deemed appropriate as well as scales and other rudimentary exercises. Read More
