I use method books by Hal Leonard and Bryan Johanson to begin with, along with exercises from pumping nylon. Once we get to a point where we can read fairly fluently, we begin repertoire work from Canada's Royal Conservatory. I also use chord charts to begin learning how to play as well, as most students like to learn chords to play pop or folk tunes in the meantime as they're learning the fundamentals. Read More

I enjoy giving my students control over their own learning process at times. This means that I will sometimes provide them choices within the context of what I am trying to teach them. I also make lessons fun by performing duets with students to take a break from the daily material. I also emphasize site-reading in every lesson to develop this much-neglected skill. I give Suzuki violin, viola and cello lessons. I also use classical method with scales, etudes and solo pieces in my teaching as another option. With fiddle students I use Ann Wheeler method books. My piano students use Faber piano series. My Guitar students use Hal Leonard guitar method and guitar song collections.
