I also tend to be a visual instructor , meaning I like to use tricks to teach students different vocal technique. I have studied at Berklee College of Music and am well versed in Genres such as Blues, Rock, Classical, Jazz, and have been performing professionally since 14. Some highlights in my career are the Berklee Spring Guitar Award 2021, Going to NAMM 2022, playing as guest guitarist with The Ohio Players. For beginning students I prefer to use either Alfred's, Mel Bay, or Hal Leonard method books. I generally stay away from method books that use guitar tablature because I find that student will prefer to read the tablature instead of standard musical notation. Tablature is a good way to easily show how guitar parts are played, but is not useful when teaching standard notation, music theory, harmony, etc. In addition to using a method book, I will also teach the student popular songs, which is a great way to start teaching chords and song structure in addition to keeping the lesson fun and the student engaged. My approach to doing lessons tends to be high enthusiasm and high standards. I am a firm believer in the idea of using focused practice and developing healthy self-criticism skills to build character. Creating lofty (but achievable) goals, setting standards, and persevering through challenges, is not only a great way to become a better musician, but is also a great way to become a better person.
