There are a few exercises from the essential elements book that I like to use with beginners, but not enough to warrant purchasing the book. I provide photocopies of all the lessons, as well as supplemental videos in some cases. I am a passionate musician who has been privately trained in instrumental and vocal music since I was 8 years old. I have had many opportunities as a trumpeter and vocalist, which include performing with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and Choir, the Sioux City Symphony, and soloing alongside legendary jazz trumpet player, Jon Faddis. I have won numerous awards in music, such as Outstanding Soloist at the AU Jazz Competition in 2012 and 2014, as well as Outstanding Brass Soloist at the KCKCC Jazz Competition in 2015. Read More

I like to begin students in the Arban's Conservatory Method book, it is a very thorough book with a lot of examples of most technical things a student should work on. It is a very comprehensive book that doesn't focus on anything in particular but covers everything well. I then like to move into books that focus more on different aspects of playing such as Charlier, Vizutti, Brandt, and Orchestral Excerpt books meant for Smphony auditions. Read More
