At an early age, I knew music was what I wanted to do with my life, and how I knew I would be able to touch people. My teaching experience goes back to my second year at my university and I fell in love with teaching after the very first lesson. In a never dull, quick paced setting, that accentuates each individual student's needs, I hope to never leave you bored, yet eager for the next session. Read More

I typically use the Applebaum String Builder method books, and supplement with solo pieces as needed. I encourage regular practice, as students who feel they are progressing and doing well tend to enjoy their instrument more. As they become more advanced, they are encouraged to start giving opinions on what they want to learn. One thing that makes my studio unique is that I don't just teach how to play an instrument, I teach my students how to practice. Read More

My teaching philosophy emphasizes and promotes that the student has fun and develops a love for music and the instrument that they play. The way that I do this is by placing an emphasis on music the student enjoys, and by giving the student a fair amount of autonomy in choosing their repertoire they would like to learn. By matching teaching concepts with songs that the student has chosen, I have found that the concept becomes better ingrained in the student and they enjoy practicing more. Read More

As a piano educator, I believe that the foundation of success as a pianist is a thorough understanding of musical theory, and my method involves teaching piano from the ground up by teaching a little theory and applying it, then a little more theory and applying it, and so on, and so forth, until the student is fluent in the language that is music. At the intermediate and advanced levels, I focus more on technique and expressivity. Read More

I teach a predominantly Suzuki as I learned with the Suzuki method and I am trained as a Suzuki instructor. I don't completely immerse my students with the Suzuki method and while learning how to play by ear, I teach students how to read music so that they are able to compose their own music. Read More

As a flute player, where would we be without the teachings of Trevor Wye, Marcel Moyse, Paul Taffanel and Philippe Gaubert? Of course, I will start by determining where they are at, a test, so to say. For the beginners, I like to start with the Trevor Wye beginners books. As they grow more advanced, we will look at separate books such as the 24 melodic studies by Moyse and intermediate books that are also by Wye. Read More
Instruments: Flute
I have taught flute for 4 years to people of all ages -I have taught children, high school students, pre-college division music majors, college students and adult amateurs - students who have played in school and community orchestras, churches and for their own personal enjoyment. While I was attending the Conservatory we were also required to take several "method" classes that involved not only knowing the history of the instrument but the history of teaching the instrument as well as teaching the instrument in front of the Conservatory faculty.
