I use the Mark Thomas flute books for beginner through the 2nd year. In the first year, I typically teach basic fundamentals of scales and playing the full range of the instrument along with basic flute literature. Once these are complete I transition into the Anderson studies and more advanced literature. For intermediate students I try to make it fun, according to their ages, may be throw some pop tunes here and there, or if they are more serious into classical then I would definitely enjoy the challenge of teaching relaxation techniques during difficult passages such as double stops, high positions, string crossings, etc. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I enjoy teaching everyone from the aspiring professional saxophonist to the hobby player and will base my teaching on the goals they have set so that they may achieve them. I am a professional licensed educator, as well as, a mother of two grown children, both of which influence my teaching method. My style is individualized to the student's personality - what works for one may not work for another. One student may be very driven to learn theory and do written homework, while another may find written homework to be agonizing but love learning new pieces of music - I will work with both styles, with the same result - each student learns to play the instrument and learns the required theory to be able to play the piano, while hopefully enjoying it along the way! I have been singing and teaching for over 30 years both professionally and for my own enjoyment.  Singing is my passion , it is what I do.  I have found that teaching someone to enjoy and express themselves through music is perhaps one of the most rewarding things I do.  For the past several  years I have had the privilege to teach within several school districts as a Private Voice Instructor. These districts include Arlington ISD, Grapevine ISD, Plano ISD and Lewisville ISD.  During my time with Grapevine ISD I worked closely with Music Faculty in support of their program which included writing curriculum for the Music History program.  I work closely with my students and their Choral Director to make the musical experience fun and rewarding.  At the end of the school year the students perform in recital for their parents and friends.  I am always very proud of my students as they demonstrate what they have learned and how much they have improved through the year. I taught high school choral music for over 20 years in Southern California.  I have been teaching private piano for the last 15 years, the past 4 years in my piano studio and prior to that, 10 years with the Frisco School of Music in Frisco TX.  I am a member of Music Teachers National Associaton, Texas Music Teachers Assocation, and locally, the Denton Music Teachers Association.
